THE VOLUNTEER AWARD CATEGORIES INCLUDE:
United Way Hands On Volunteer of the Year:
This award recognizes an individual who has served as an exemplary volunteer with United Way Hands On. The award recipient went above and beyond what was expected of him or her and is regarded highly among the United Way Hands On leadership, staff and the community.
Corporate/Company Volunteer of the Year:
This award recognizes a company employee that shows an exemplary approach to supporting and serving the community through volunteerism through their place of employment.
Community Volunteer of the Year:
This award recognizes outstanding service by a person who, through personal efforts, a civic or service organization, community group, the arts, sorority , fraternity, trade association or union, has volunteered to work to better the lives of others. The notable Awardee has engaged in meaningful volunteer service that has had a measurable difference in the community.
Government Volunteer of the Year:
This award recognizes an individual who as a government employee or official provided hands-on volunteer service and outstanding and significant commitment for the betterment of the community.
Nonprofit Volunteer of the Year:
This award recognizes an individual that has worked tirelessly to support the mission and daily operations of a specific nonprofit organization. This individual has championed the causes, led initiatives and has been commended by the organization’s leadership and staff for his or her selfless service in improving the conditions within the community.
Student Volunteer of the Year:
This award recognizes a student that has exemplified commitment, enthusiasm and actively encouraged the participation of other students in going over and beyond in serving and meeting a need within the community. This student has demonstrated and served as an example of a volunteer student leader among his or her peers.
Small Business Volunteer of the Year:
This award recognizes a volunteer who is employed by or owns a company that is classified as a small business. This volunteer has identified and supported a community project through a substantial contribution of volunteer hours and non-financial resources, and the contribution has had a positive effect on the community.

Faith Based Volunteer of the Year:
This award recognizes a volunteer whose service took place as part of a faith-based initiative or through his or her place of worship. The volunteer has identified a need within the community and has led an effort to address the need with his or her time and/or non-financial resources. The result of the volunteer’s efforts has had a sustaining and profound effect in improving the condition of the community.
