DONATE SUPPLIES AND VOLUNTEER:
The City of Birmingham is collecting supplies to assist those affected by the hurricane. Volunteers are also needed to sort donated items Monday, September 9 to Thursday, September 12 at Boutwell Auditorium. Three shifts are available throughout the day starting at 7:15 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m..
Needed items include: Bottle drinks, flashlights, batteries, duct tape, tarps, cleaning supplies, tents, bikes, first aid kits, toiletries, diapers and baby supplies, canned goods, work gloves, cleaning and baby wipes, candles, garbage bags, zip ties, matches, whistles, maps, paper towels, toilet paper, manual can openers, safety glasses, extension cords, hammers, nails, bug spray, mosquito nets, unused blankets and sunscreen. Please NO clothing.
Supplies can be dropped off at Boutwell Auditorium located at 1930 Reverend Abraham Woods Jr Boulevard, Birmingham, AL 35203.
FINANCIAL SUPPORT:
United Way of Miami-Dade County is helping the victims in the Bahamas as well as areas around Dade County with relief, rebuilding and recovery efforts. As the hurricane makes landfall in the Carolinas we will update this blog on relief efforts there.
