United Way Centennial Parks
Celebrating 100 Years of United Way in Central Alabama
In honor of its centennial anniversary in 2023, United Way of Central Alabama launched the Centennial Parks initiative, creating accessible recreational spaces to foster community connections and enhance quality of life across the six counties we serve.Parks in Jefferson, Shelby and Walker counties are already complete, featuring amenities such as outdoor classrooms, sports fields, recreation areas and green spaces tailored to local needs. Construction is underway on a park in St. Clair County, set to open in Spring 2025, with plans for parks in Blount and Chilton counties on the horizon.
These projects rely on the dedication of volunteers and supporters who contribute to their construction and maintenance. Beyond the initial build, Centennial Parks create lasting opportunities for service through annual cleanups, beautification efforts and potential future expansions. Together, we’re building vibrant spaces that will serve our communities for generations to come.

Modular Park Elements
Outdoor Classroom Pavilions

Amenities and Elements
The parks will include spaces and facilities for both fitness and play — swings, pickleball courts, playing fields and various equipment. Each park will have a variety of amenities customized to the needs of the community.
There will also be other recreational amenities such as picnic tables, benches and garden elements.
