Each year, thousands of volunteers spend countless hours working to better communities throughout Central Alabama, largely without recognition. United Way Hands On honors these tireless, unsung heroes, their outstanding service and incredible impact at the annual Ignite Volunteer Awards. We know that these volunteers are truly the heart of the community. Nominees come from all ages and backgrounds but are bonded through their passion and commitment to service.
Join United Way Hands On, the volunteer center of United Way of Central Alabama, as we host IGNITE – Citizens Volunteer Celebration.
Individuals are eligible for an award if they satisfy the following conditions:
1. S/he is either self-nominated for an award or is nominated for an award by another person.
2. S/he submits a complete nomination application or has one submitted on their behalf by the nominator.
3. S/he is a resident of Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Blount or Walker County or completed his or her volunteer work in one of those counties.

The Mission of United Way Hands On, formerly Hands On Birmingham, is focused on connecting people with organized and meaningful volunteer opportunities to help bring about positive social change in our community.
