UWCA Volunteers Get “Hands On” with Back-to-School Beautification Projects

United Way Hands On, the volunteer center for United Way of Central Alabama (UWCA), coordinates Back-to-School Beautification projects every year to help spruce up school playgrounds around the city following the summer break. And year after year, community-minded groups and individuals volunteer their strong backs and kind hearts to make the effort a success.

Employees of RSM US LLP, an audit, tax and consulting firm, tackled a project from August 1st through 5th, while an August 6th project was completed by members of the Tocqueville Society, J. Mason Davis Leadership Society, Women United and the Young Philanthropists Society (all UWCA affinity groups), as well as generous supporters from Birmingham Squadron, Brasfield & Gorrie, Hearst WVTM TV Channel 13, O’Neal Steel, Regions, Southern Company Services, T-Mobile and a local soccer club.

These servant-style leaders spent hours in the sun making a difference in their community by trimming hedges, rerouting water issues, painting swings and more! Because of them, schools across the Birmingham area were ready to welcome students back in a safe, fun and more attractive environment.
