UWCA’s Hands On Renovates Playground at Princeton Elementary
BIRMINGHAM, AL — With kids returning to school from virtual learning, things such as playground maintenance, overgrown shrubbery, and roof repairs have been current issues faced by school administrators and principals. Now that school is back in session, United Way Hands On found an opportunity to help the community and give hope to the kids of Princeton Elementary School. In partnership with RSM consulting group, United Way of Central Alabama’s Hands On renovated a new playground at Princeton Elementary School near the Bush Hills Community. The 3-day project included placing filter fabric, removing and reconstructing playground pergolas, placing mulch, and so much more.
United Way Hands On mission is to connect people in six different counties with nearly 200 nonprofits and schools to provide organized and meaningful volunteer opportunities to improve their community.
“The kids are beyond excited! We take pride in our school and with us being out from COVID, everything was overgrown. You guys have no idea how much this means to the faculty and more importantly, the kids”, said 3rd grade teacher and community liaison Erica Porter.
Since 2010, RSM US LLP employees have taken time away from the office to help others through a coordinated firm-wide Volunteer Day. RSM’s day of giving back has grown so much that in 2019, the firm decided to expand it to an entire week to maximize the volunteer impact on our communities. While RSM’s people regularly give back to their local communities, RSM Volunteer Week represents part of our firm’s commitment to the communities where our people work and live.
RSM employee, John Wilks stated, “Our office has been supporting United Way for a long time and it’s one of the best organizations in town. They continue to align with our firm core values to support our communities and we love working with them.”
Faculty and staff of Princeton Elementary can now enjoy and keep our young learners happy, healthy and active as they return to a new school year.
