United Way and Jasper collaborate to complete the third of six community parks in Central Alabama

In the shade of a newly constructed pavilion, Jasper Mayor David O’Mary looked out over what was once a bare patch of land. That’s now been replaced with fresh mulch and gravel, picnic tables, new swings and a renewed and restriped soccer field.

The new Jasper Centennial Park is the result of a partnership between United Way of Central Alabama (UWCA) and the Jasper community.

Birmingham Squadron Give Back to Robinson Primary School

As part of a multi-faceted Back-to-School Campaign, United Way Hands On recently organized a beautification event at Robinson Primary School in Fairfield and volunteers included members and staff from the Birmingham Squadron. The Squadron is an NBA G League team affiliated with the New Orleans Pelicans. They gathered for a morning of impactful community service. Even Commander, the Squadron’s beloved mascot, joined in to add to the day’s vibrant atmosphere.

A Historic Day as Ground Is Broken for Walker County Centennial Park

It was a hot day in Jasper as Willie Moore III, standing in the sun, pushed up his browline glasses and revealed a grin.

Representing the Jasper City Council, Moore was participating in the official groundbreaking for Walker County Centennial Park, one of six community parks to be built by United Way of Central Alabama (UWCA) in each of the six counties the organization serves. The parks project is in celebration of UWCA’s 100th anniversary and is a “thank you” for each community’s support through the years.

Celebrating Those Who Make a Difference — National Volunteer Week 2024

Since 2021, the first year that DeOnia Gibby was on the Golden Bears Softball Team at Miles College, she has been finding ways to be a force for good. At the beginning of that softball season, the Montgomery native organized a backpack and supply drive for Robinson Primary School in Fairfield. Gibby, along with her teammates, donated about 30 backpacks full of supplies for the K through 2nd students.
